“Norðlýsið” means “Northern Light” in Faroese. The ship was built during the Second World War at the Tórshavn shipyard. The material is Canadian oak.
Norðlýsið is the oldest Faroese-built sailing vessel still in existence. Originally constructed in 1945 for use in the fishing industry, it was later transformed into a majestic schooner during the 1980s by renowned Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson, who regards the ship as one of his finest artistic creations.
Norðlýsið (nor-loui-si) has become an icon for visitors and locals alike. It is the perfect way to experience the Faroe Islands from the sea.
