Helicopters in the Faroe Islands were created to provide easy transportation around the archipelago. Some islands are not connected to the road system and can only be reached by ferry or helicopter. The rough seas of the North Atlantic often cancel ferry flights, and helicopter service provides a unique opportunity to see the islands from above.

Tórshavn – Fródbá

Flying over this part of the Faroe Islands, you can see rugged mountains, steep cliffs, basalt columns, black sand beaches and some of the smallest islands in the archipelago. Fródbá is located next to a bay along the east coast of the island and is an ideal place for a day trip.

Tórshavn – Hattarvík

The route to Hattarvík allows you to see the most picturesque villages of the eastern Faroe Islands from a bird’s eye view. Hattarvík is located on the island of Fugloy and is the easternmost settlement in the country. Before you reach Hattarvik, there are stops in Svina and Kirkja.

The mountains and sea cliffs surround the villages, offering breathtaking panoramic views that you won’t see from the ground. Soaring over the rocky peaks, you’ll get the best shots of the archipelago’s dramatic topography. You’ll fly over sparkling fjords and isolated coastlines that are home to a variety of bird species. The jagged cliffs of Fugloy offer incredible views of the surrounding islands, and in the summer, thousands of puffins flock here.

Vagar – Mykines

Mykines is the westernmost island in the archipelago and an ideal spot for puffin watching in the summer.

Although the flight is only 10 minutes long, the route is filled with some of the Faroe Islands’ most beautiful sights. You’ll have the rare opportunity to see the abandoned village of Víkar, the Múlafossur waterfall, the cliffs of Tralanipa, Fjallavatn and Sørvágsvatn. When you get to Mykines, you’ll find yourself surrounded by thousands of dead ends or completely alone on a remote island.
