The Flåm Railway (Flåmsbana) is a thrilling train journey that offers panoramic views of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in the Norwegian fjords. The train ride is one of the steepest railway lines in the world.
The railway is considered one of Norway’s top and most spectacular tourist attractions, and the train journey offers some of the country’s wildest and most awe-inspiring scenery. On the 20-kilometre train journey between Myrdal and Flåm, you can see rivers cutting through deep gorges, waterfalls cascading down steep snow-capped mountains and mountain farms clinging dizzyingly to sheer cliffs.
The train stops for photos at the beautiful Kjosfossen waterfall. The winding tunnels that spiral in and out of the mountain represent some of the most daring and ingenious engineering feats in Norwegian railway history and are a truly breathtaking sight. The railway’s final stop is the small, picturesque village of Flåm, located deep in the Aurlandsfjord, a 204-kilometre-long, 1,308-metre-deep arm of the Sognefjord.
