The Norwegian fjords are one of the most beautiful and popular natural wonders of Norway. A fjord is a deep, narrow inlet that is formed by the activity of glaciers as they carve and smooth out dolomite rock, leaving behind a long, narrow inlet. Fjords typically have steep banks and deep waters, often surrounded by mountains or high cliffs. They are considered to be some of the most impressive and unique natural phenomena. There are over 1,000 fjords in Norway, each with its own unique beauty and atmosphere.

In the heart of the Norwegian fjord landscape lies Sognefjord, just a few hours drive from Oslo and Bergen. It is the largest and most famous fjord in Norway, stretching 204 km inland and only 300 meters wide at its narrowest point! Along the fjord you will see high mountain peaks, a blue glacier, mighty waterfalls and idyllic small farms.

The region has many attractions:

  • the Flåm Railway,
  • the Jostedalsbreen glacier,
  • the Jotunheimen National Park,
  • Rallar Road,
  • the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Urnes Stive Church,
  • the Aurlands Udalen Valley.

From here you can enjoy stunning fjord scenery and views of the Folgefonna glacier. You can climb Troltunga on a day hike, or you can see it on a helicopter flight from Bergen or surrounding villages.
