Trondheim is the third largest city in Norway, located in the northern part of the country.

One of Trondheim’s most famous landmarks is Nidaros Cathedral, which is Norway’s national shrine and Northern Europe’s most important pilgrimage site. Trondheim, or Nidaros as the city was originally called, was Northern Europe’s most important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Pilgrims came from near and far to visit the grave of St. Olav. Today, the pilgrimage tradition has been revived. The pilgrimage route in the footsteps of St. Olav ends here. The cathedral is built over the grave of St. Olav, the Viking king who converted Norway to Christianity and became the “Eternal King of Norway.” Throughout the Middle Ages, it was a majestic symbol of religious faith and the powerful position of the Church. Explore the ruins of St. Olav’s Church.

Just outside the city center, visit the 17th-century Kristiansten Fortress. It is located on a hill east of the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag County, Norway, and is named after Christian V, the Danish-Norwegian king. The fortress was built after the city fire in Trondheim in 1681 to protect the city from attack from the east. Construction was completed in 1685. It served its purpose in 1718, when Swedish troops besieged Trondheim.

The city also has various old houses and streets, where the atmosphere of medieval Norway can be seen. Trondheim is a starting point for trips along the coast, fjords and mountains of the Trøndelag region.

Near the city is the famous Atlantic Road, which is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It connects Avery to the mainland through a series of small islands, across which a total of eight bridges with a height of 8,274 meters are thrown. The road was opened in 1989 and is free. The Atlantic Road has the status of a National Tourist Route, and the entire section between Bad and Kristiansund is a one-stop experience filled with coastal scenery. Driving along the Atlantic Road leaves people with memories that last a lifetime.
