Dalarna
Dalarna is a historical province in central Sweden. In this place, all of Sweden’s natural heritage comes together: mountains, lakes, industrial history, craft traditions and Sami culture.
In the northern part of Dalarna the road ends and the mountains stretch out in front of you. They, in turn, are the most easily accessible in Sweden. In Grevelsh you can spend hours walking along a huge number of ancient paths with truly Swedish landscapes. Along the way, you may meet majestic deer, see mountain huts, or even relax in them.
Dalarna is famous for its vast territory of untouched wild nature. By booking safari excursions, you can find traces of moose, lynx, beaver, or even see them with your own eyes.
Smeleden is a 57 km long walking route along which you can visit many interesting places. You will be able to pass by a number of old mines, the Shissittan and Yatturns nature reserves, where there is a limestone cave. And on the shore of the lake you can have a picnic while watching incredible views.
Dalarna is home to several Sami settlements, which are the indigenous people of Northern Eurasia. In the North of Dalarna in Hydra, you can get a wide range of Sami experiences: go on an excursion with tame reindeer and in the tent of the nomadic people, listen to interesting stories around the fire, passed down from generation to generation.
You will have an incredible experience waking up at the Idre Fjall hotel, which is located right at the foot of the mountain. And you can swim in the luxurious pool or play golf while enjoying the clean mountain air.
Dalarna is the region where the famous midsummer festival Midsommar is most celebrated.
In winter, the region is famous for family ski resorts such as Orsa and Idre Fjäll. Also located here is Tomteland Park, where the Swedish Father Christmas lives. The park is open from early December to early January. There you can stroll through mysterious houses, meet Father Frost and his wife Tomtemor, fairy-tale characters, ride in a horse-drawn carriage and drink Swedish gleg.
