Excursion to Gripsholm Castle and Taxinge

We suggest you visit one of the oldest castles in Sweden – Gripsholm. The road one way takes about an hour. Gripsholm was built by order of the first Swedish king Gustav Vasa in 1537. Over time, the castle became a refuge for the widowed queens of Sweden. Gripsholm is the best example of the Renaissance, one of the most famous architectural monuments and the embodiment of Swedish romance. It is located on one of the islands of Lake Mälaren, near the city of Mariefred.

Here you can admire the paintings on the walls and ceiling, as well as medieval furniture. The castle has the largest portrait gallery in Sweden, numbering about 4,000 paintings. It is also a real castle-fortress, the thickness of its walls reaches 4 meters. Next, you will go to the Taxinge estate. This private estate from the 18th century is known as the “cake castle”, which offers its guests a wide selection of pastries from the local confectionery.
