Västerås is an industrial city in Central Sweden, located on the shores of Lake Mälaren in the province of Västmanland. Founded in the Middle Ages, Västerås is Sweden’s fifth largest city and one of the oldest cities in Northern Europe, as well as home to Sweden’s largest inland harbour.

The Valby Open Air Museum tells the story of life in Västmanland. Since 1921, over fifty buildings have been rescued and restored at the Valby Open Air Museum. The museum is spread over 37 acres and includes historic gardens, vegetable gardens, agricultural landscapes and native species, as well as a collection of historic buildings.

The Great Mound “Anundshog” is considered the largest mound in Sweden. It was built around 500-1050 AD. The crowns and shape of the magnificent monument, as well as the two adjacent stone circles. There is a large cemetery around. This place has long been a meeting place and a hub in the transport network. During the Iron Age, there were standing stones and a unique Runstens monument here. You can also visit Frösåkers Brygga, where there is a Viking village with their historical crafts (from mid-May to the end of August).
