Sigtuna is the first capital of Sweden from the 11th century with preserved architecture of the early Middle Ages. The city has a pedestrian area surrounded by colorful wooden houses, where shops, cafes and restaurants are located.

Founded as a Viking town, Sigtuna became the place of early Christianization of Sweden. Ruins of the first Christian churches from the 10th-11th centuries are still preserved here, as well as the first brick church in Sweden, built in the 13th century.

Numerous rune stones have survived from the Viking era – 10 in the central part of the city and 150 in the suburbs, due to which Sigtuna is the city with the largest number of rune stones in the world. The age of these rune stones is almost 1000 years.

The city is also famous for the fact that the smallest town hall in Sweden is located here.

If time allows, we recommend stopping for a cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun at the famous old coffee shop Tant Brun.

After visiting Sigtuna, you will go to the next capital – the city of Uppsala. Uppsala was the capital of Sweden until the mid-17th century, when the capital was moved to Stockholm.

During the tour you will see Gustav Vasa Castle, visit the city center and the Cathedral, and admire the panorama of the city from the observation deck.

Uppsala Cathedral was built 750 years ago, around 1270. The reliquary of St. Eric, the main artifact of the cathedral, was moved here from the former cathedral in Old Uppsala back in 1273. Uppsala Cathedral continues to be the place of both daily services and church holidays and synods. All archbishops of Sweden, as well as priests and deacons of the Diocese of Uppsala, are ordained here. Kings and queens of Sweden were crowned in Uppsala Cathedral until 1719.

Every year, about half a million people come to Uppsala Cathedral for services, concerts, retreats, or as tourists. Uppsala is also the oldest center of higher education in Scandinavia. The foundation of Uppsala University dates back to 1477. The university library houses the famous Silver Bible. At the end of the tour, you will have lunch in the restaurant next to the Cathedral, where you can enjoy traditional Swedish dishes.
