Skåne is the southernmost region of Sweden. It is famous for its magnificent nature, beaches, fascinating history and lively urban rhythm. Skåne is a unique destination offering a wide range of experiences, from Malmö’s beautiful architecture to relaxing natural landscapes with vast fields of bright yellow rapeseed and magical beech forests. This beautiful province offers easy access to Denmark and Northern Europe via the Øresund Bridge, ferry service and Malmö Airport. It also offers a variety of accommodation, dining and activity options in and around cities such as Malmö, Lund, Helsingborg, Ystad, Trelleborg and Båstad.

One of the interesting attractions of the region is the Ale’s Stenar stones. This mystical early Iron Age monument consists of 59 massive boulders arranged in a 67 meter long contour, offering magnificent views of the hilly landscape of Österlen and the Baltic Sea. No one knows who built this megalithic monument about 1,400 years ago or why.

The town of Århus is the birthplace of Absolut vodka. In the summer of 2018, Absolut Home in Åhus opened its doors in a fully restored early 20th century brick building to share experiences, dishes and tastings. Soon after, Villa Absolut soon became one of Sweden’s largest tourist attractions, attracting visitors from all over the world.

The third largest city in Sweden, the capital of the Skåne region, and one of the southernmost cities in Sweden is Malmö. Its peculiarity is that it is located only 19 km from the Danish capital, Copenhagen, located on the other side of the Oresund Strait. These two cities are connected by the longest bridge in Europe, the Øresund Bridge. This proximity to the central part of Europe makes Malmö a special and very dynamically developing city in Sweden.

At the same time, the historical center is small and cozy, retaining its ancient charm. Visit Stortorjet, Malmö’s main square, which was once the largest square in Europe. Here is the beautiful town hall, the equestrian monument of King Charles X Gustav and the residence of the governor. There is also an interesting fountain on the square, built on the site of a former well with drinking water. Check out the cobblestone Lilatori, another of the city’s ancient squares. There are a large number of cafes and restaurants here and it is always noisy, this is a great place to sit in a street cafe or make an appointment with friends.

A must-see is Malmehus Castle, built in 1434 and once a royal residence. The castle is a classic Renaissance citadel – with powerful walls, towers, surrounded by a deep moat. Danish coins were once minted here, royal balls were held here, or prisoners languished here when the castle became a prison in the 19th century. Now it houses the most important museums of Malmö – the City Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Science and Technology, the Art Museum and the Maritime Museum.

Fans of modern design will be interested in the tallest residential skyscraper in Northern Europe – Turning Torso. The design of this building, with a “twist”, was developed by the famous architect Santiago Calatrava. The skyscraper has 54 floors and its height is 190 meters.

Malmö will not let you get bored, here you will always find an abundance of beautiful parks, stunning beaches, shops, museums and world-class restaurants. Finding entertainment and attractions to suit your taste will not be difficult. Well, if you suddenly get bored, we suggest you take trips to the nearest cities – Lund, Helsingborg or visit the south of the Skåne region.
